John 8:36

So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

Romans 3:23-24

For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. (24) Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins.

Romans  6:6

We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.

Romans 6:7

For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.

In the past, the law held us like prisoners, but our old selves died, and we were made free from the law. So now we serve God in a new way with the Spirit, and not in the old way with written rules.

And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.
